2019 – Federal Election Forum

The Federal Election is upon us!

Southland Church is hosting an Australian Christian Lobby (ACL) forum with candidates for both the South Australian Senate and our local electorate, Boothby. As a local church, we are not politically partisan but we do want to encourage people to research their candidates and vote intelligently. This forum will help you familiarize yourself with the views and policies of candidates so you can make an informed choice at the ballot box.

Pollock & Olonga

Southland Church
Pasadena Green Shopping Centre, 20 Fiveash Drive, Pasadena, South Australia, 5042, Australia
Time: May 19 @ 6:00 pm – May 19 @ 7:30 pm

Two cricketing greats coming together:  Henry Olonga and Peter Pollock, two great fast bowlers, now evangelists, will bring a two pronged pace attack to Southland Church on Sunday evening May 19th at 6.00 pm.

Henry Olonga is a former Zimbabwean cricketer, who played Test cricket and One Day Internationals for a career span of 8 years. When he made his Test debut in January 1995 against Pakistan at Harare, he was the first black cricketer – and the youngest person – to play for Zimbabwe. He became a regular member of the Zimbabwe team from 1998 to 2003.

Henry played 30 Test matches for Zimbabwe, taking 68 wickets with a bowling average of 38.52, and 50 One Day Internationals, taking 58 wickets at an average of 34.08. He holds the record for the best bowling in an ODI by a Zimbabwean, with figures of 6–19 against England at Cape Town in 2000.

Peter Pollock is a former South African cricketer.  On his debut, he took six wickets in the second innings against New Zealand in Durban in 1961.  He was South Africa’s leading bowler in the 1960’s, playing every Test between 1962 and 1970.

Perhaps the highlight of his career came alongside that of his brother when they were both playing in a Test match at Trent Bridge in 1965. Peter took ten wickets in the match with innings figures of 5 for 53 and 5 for 34, while his brother Graeme, batting, made 125 and 59. South Africa won the match, and with it the three-Test series.[7] Peter and Graeme were the leading figures involved in the famous Walk-off at Newlands in 1971 as a protest against apartheid and political interference in cricket.

Both men are passionate about the Gospel and both are gifted evangelists.  Henry will express his gift through music and Peter will bring a Gospel message.

Entree is free, there will be an offering to help with costs and honoraria.
